Thank you, Dr. Weissbluth

As a follow-up to my last post about trying to get Audrey onto a nap schedule using Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby, it seems to be working. It has definitely NOT been easy, and my mornings and afternoons were full of listening to Audrey scream, talk, kick, etc in her crib. She has been much easier to put down in the mornings (but still only slept for an hour), but has completely resisted the afternoon nap. In the afternoons, she would scream, cry, and fuss for 45 minutes and then doze for 20, and then repeat (well, I would only get her to doze twice if I was lucky!) We ended up putting her down earlier for the night every single day since she always had such a bad afternoon nap.

Despite her terrible nap habits, she was good at sleeping through the night. She has slept through the night completely for the last three nights, and we even caught her self-soothing back to sleep last night. That NEVER happened before. This morning, she talked for 20 minutes in her crib before sleeping for TWO hours. It was SO easy and painless. In the afternoon, she fussed/cried for 20 minutes and then went to sleep. She slept for about 30 minutes and just woke up as I started typing this paragraph (figures). Let’s see if she can put herself down again for a little while…
